A Typical Day
Every day at Little Wise Owls Outdoor Learning is a new adventure! While no two days are exactly the same, our Summer Sessions follow a familiar rhythm that helps children feel safe, confident, and excited to explore.
We begin each morning with a welcome circle, safety chat, and songs before heading out to discover the forest. Throughout the day, children enjoy child-led play, hiking, nature exploration, wildlife observation, hands-on crafts, imaginative play, and plenty of opportunities to build friendships.
We pause for healthy snacks, lunch, and rest breaks while continuing to learn through curiosity and adventure. Whether we're climbing over logs, splashing in a creek, building forts, discovering insects, or creating nature-inspired art, every experience encourages confidence, creativity, resilience, and a lifelong connection to the natural world.
Each day is thoughtfully planned while leaving plenty of room for spontaneous discoveries—because some of the best learning happens when children follow their curiosity.
Safety
At Little Wise Owls Outdoor Learning, the safety and well-being of every child is our highest priority. Our experienced educators create a supportive environment where children are encouraged to explore, take appropriate risks, and build confidence while learning outdoors.
Our team conducts ongoing risk assessments, maintains appropriate educator-to-child ratios, and follows established safety procedures for every adventure. We monitor weather, air quality, and trail conditions daily and adjust our plans whenever necessary to ensure children can safely enjoy meaningful outdoor experiences.
Children are guided in developing outdoor safety skills through hands-on learning, including respectful wildlife interactions, tool use, hiking awareness, water safety, and caring for the natural environment. We believe that teaching children to recognize and manage risk is an important part of helping them become capable, resilient, and confident learners.
FAQs
How do I register?Registration is completed online through our website. Spaces are limited to maintain small group sizes and provide meaningful learning experiences, so we recommend registering early to avoid disappointment.
What happens if it rains? We believe there is no such thing as bad weather—only the wrong clothing! Our Summer Sessions run rain or shine, with activities adapted to the conditions. In cases of extreme weather or unsafe air quality, families will be notified of any schedule changes.
Do children spend the entire day outdoors?Yes. Our Summer Sessions are designed as fully outdoor programs, allowing children to learn, play, and connect with nature throughout the day while taking regular breaks for snacks, lunch, hydration, and rest.
Does my child need previous outdoor experience? Not at all! Whether your child loves spending time outdoors or is just beginning to explore nature, our educators provide encouragement and support to help every child feel confident, included, and excited to participate.
What should my child bring?Families will receive a detailed packing list before the session begins. Children should come dressed for the weather with appropriate outdoor clothing, sturdy footwear, a backpack, a water bottle, snacks, and a packed lunch.
What makes Little Wise Owls different from a traditional summer camp? Our Summer Sessions combine the adventure of an outdoor summer program with the philosophy of a Forest School. Rather than following a rigid schedule, children experience child-led learning, meaningful exploration, nature-based education, and hands-on adventures that foster confidence, resilience, creativity, and a lifelong connection to the natural world.
